NEW YORK MIKROPHON

2015

for clarinet, violoncello, percussion and piano

dedicated to Séverine Ballon, Mark Knoop, Carl Rosman

duration: ca. 4 minutes

The first in a new series of works based on a microtiming of Glenn Gould's recording of Schoenberg's Six Little Piano Pieces, op. 19 [1911], made at 30th Street Studio, New York, on 28-29 September 1965, released as Columbia ML 6216/17, and reissued as Sony 88725413642. Gould's performance incorporates his own singing and dozens of chair-creaks and pedal sounds, all of which are microtimed and incorporated into this chamber work.
